Who goes first in Thailand
Understand when to wait at junctions, right turns, roundabouts and driveways — and how to give pedestrians and emergency vehicles space.

Read the junction controls
Follow the officer directing traffic, then the applicable signals, signs and road priority. A green light does not mean you should enter a junction you cannot clear.
Uncontrolled junctions
Let vehicles already in the junction clear first. If you arrive together on equal-priority roads, yield to the vehicle on your left. Main-road traffic has priority; lane count and alley/soi connections can determine priority even without signs.
Turning right
Without a protected turn arrow, yield to oncoming traffic going straight before turning across its path. Signal, check again and turn only when safe. Yield to pedestrians crossing the road you enter.
Roundabouts
Follow local controls first. Yield to vehicles already circulating from your right. Travel clockwise, keep left of the island, and follow lane arrows to your exit.
Driveways and parking areas
When leaving private land or a parking area, stop and give way to traffic on the public road. Check both directions and the footpath before joining.
Pedestrians and emergency vehicles
Stop for pedestrians at uncontrolled crossings and obey crossing signals. For an emergency vehicle using lights or a siren, move left and stop when safe; keep junctions clear. If the far-left lane is a bus lane, stop alongside it.
Five checks before you move
Read the controls, identify the priority road, check all directions, leave space and move only when clear. Never assume another road user will yield, even when you have priority.
